In recent years, the IRS has significantly increased the level of focus on compliance in the tax-exempt sector.  There are a host of potential tax penalties that may apply to private foundations -- and in some cases, their foundation managers -- making them a promising target for IRS revenue agents.  This session will explain how the IRS audit process works, what issues are commonly raised in private foundation audits, and -- most importantly -- what private foundations can and should do now to minimize the disruption and potential risk of adverse consequences if they are later selected for audit.
