Grantmakers in Aging EngAGEment Initiative

The EngAGEment Initiative partners Grantmakers in Aging with regional associations of grantmakers and other national organizations to introduce grantmakers to the many needs of our aging population.  Fifteen regional associations have received grants through this initiative.  In addition, all regional associations have access to a series of six informative Issue Briefs that introduce funders to the many issues surrounding aging. They are designed to give an overview of the subject, statistics, charts, links and funding opportunities.

Since its start as a pilot program in 2005, a dozen regional associations have partnered with Grantmakers in Aging (GIA) to operate innovative and creative programs crafted to meet the needs of individual regional associations.  Successful applicants have received up to $30,000 in grants over two years and are provided technical assistance, materials, and networking opportunities.  GIA and the Forum will make certain that the knowledge and products developed through EngAGEment will be available long-term to the regional association community.

  • EngAGEment Snapshot: Florida Philanthropic Network
In this guest post by Maggie Gunther Osborn, Vice President, Florida Philanthropic Network, Maggie discusses the importance of addressing aging in the state of Florida. Florida’s population is among the oldest in the country and Sarasota Country is the oldest county demographically in America. Maggie stresses that FPN found success by raising awareness of aging issues and opportunities not by separating out the conversation but rather by infiltrating conversations that Grantmakers and partners are already having. FPN has taken and will continue to take a nontraditional approach to this work and marks their success by shifts in attitudes and breadths of grantmaking that will encompass not isolate the aging populations as a valuable asset in our portfolios.
