Affiliated Funds

Typically, racial/ethnic/tribal funds and foundations are either affiliated or independent. Affiliated funds are based within a “host” institution that has 501(c)3 status, usually a community foundation, women’s fund or other public foundation or, sometimes, with an operating nonprofit or charity. They are usually established as a separate “field of interest” or “donor advised” fund under the umbrella of the host organization.
